I don't think it will happen. I do think it was the opening shot in negotiations. I think the DOE is going to be smaller and will keep their nose out of the classroom a bit more. I don't think the funding will decrease in actual terms of what an individual student would receive. I hope that with the decrease in red tape, comes an increase in learning.

I'm pleasantly surprised that the conversation is starting, this time, at how to handle strictly illegal orders. (That question answers itself.) In the first TDS pandemic of 2016-2020, the discussion was more around orders that one felt were wrong on a moral level.

Very cool article. Thanks for sharing. The thing with stair steps is neat. Simple but effective. Every so often, put in a step that is 1/2 height or 2x height. The human body is amazing in how it is able to anticipate the height of a step. A step can be off by just a little bit, and it throws me off.

Glad that most cities realize how dumb it was. Re: recruitment. Salaries for the police are actually pretty good. Not sure if it is enough to make someone want to become one. It is certainly a very tough job, and has not gotten any easier.

@Jolly said in A YT video griping about YT: How does that compare to X and Redditt? An order of magnitude bigger (X was about $3BB, Reddit $800MM).

And as for ID, the deadline for having Real ID Compliant documents for travel is May 2025. I say waive the charges and make them free.

@Horace said in Whither the Democrat Party post-Biden/Harris?: I liked the part about the guy who voted for Obama nine times. Maybe he lived in his district when he was a state and US senator? (have not listened to the interview yet)

Harris was the deciding vote of the Inflation Reduction Act, one of the bigger budget busters in recent memory. How's that for independence?

Our thing is air cleaners. Each ONE of ours is intended for a whole home. We have 8 of them in the house - set at high. Our house background noise level feels like we're in a B17 flying over France. Of course, that is in addition to the air cleaner on the furnace.

So far, rank choice voting is one of those ideas that sound good on paper and suck in the real world. Word is that Alaska will be chucking theirs pretty soon...

@George-K said in Bad Doc: If you're smart enough to finish medical school, a residency, become a cardiology fellow, you should be smart enough to never say that, or at least get a different account. I don't think I've ever posted anything political on FB. I've found that young people (40 and under) can be incredibly stupid about texts and social media postings. Perhaps it's because they grew up with the internet. Perhaps it's because they are socially retarded. Perhaps it's because they have extended adolescence.
